Media Services Division
The Media Services Division of the Library provides media materials for the
teaching, learning and research of the students and academic staff of
Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Mission
To promote the use of
multimedia in the enhancement of the dissemination and generation of
knowledge.
Objectives
The objectives of the Media
Services Division are as follows:

To develop a relevant
media collection aimed at teaching, learning, research and consultancy
such as videotapes, audio cassettes, CAI programmes, CD-ROM and others.

To promote the use of
media materials in the teaching and learning activities as well as
research, through the circulation of accession lists, exhibition of new
media items, exhibition of media items in specific fields and pamphlets.

To provide media
equipment and other facilities for the usage of media materials.
-
To be sensitive to the
development of new technologies in relation to teaching and learning.
-
Media equipment must be
in a good and functional condition as well as being up to date.
Collection
The media collection is now
around 30,000 titles and 80,000 items. It is made up of items such as
videotapes, slides, kit, transparencies, maps, audio cassettes, CD-ROM, CAI
programmes and others.
Organisation
The media collection is
organised according to the Library of Congress Classification System. It is
an open access collection and users may browse at the shelves.
Services
The services provided are
as follows:

Loan of media items e.g.
videotapes, audiocassettes, slides, transparencies, kits and CAI
Programmes.
-
Usage of media items in
the Library individually or in groups.
-
Audio room for the group
listening of music/drama/ speeches etc.
-
Multi-media and CAI
carrels.
-
Individual carrels for stereo music.
-
Usage of the Screening
Room and the Multi purpose Room which can accommodate 40 and 70 people
respectively. (prior reservation by academic staff only).

Loan/usage of maps and
aerial photos.
-
Off-air recording (may be
requested by academic staff only, in relation to their courses).
-
Individual Audio rooms
for the listening of educational tapes/lecture tapes.
-
Audio recordings for
projects related to student's courses (e.g. sound effects, back-ground
music etc).
-
No inter Library loan
services.

4 items for
2 weeks. |

Reservations |
Reservations may be made on items that have been borrowed. Refer to
Media Counter. |

Reservations for Video Table, Carrels
and Audio |
Daily
reservations only.
Reservations will be cancelled if users fo not show up after 10
minutes. |

Fines |
Overdue
fines will be for 10 cents per item per day. |
|
Public and MIDAS members |
May use
media items in the Library only. |
|
Off-Campus Students |
May borrow
out items during the intensive Course.
At other times usage is in the Library only. |

Duplicating/Copying |
Duplication/Copying of media items from the
Library Collection is strictly PROHIBITED. |
